Scripture

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

— Joshua 1:9 (NIV)

Holy Spirit Insight

Sometimes the hardest step isn’t the last one.

It’s the next one.

The next conversation.

The next doctor’s appointment.

The next act of forgiveness.

The next day after loss.

The next decision.

The next season of life.

Often we hesitate because we want certainty before we move.

We tell ourselves:

"If I knew how everything would turn out, then I would have the courage to move forward."

But God has never asked His children to walk by certainty.

He asks us to walk by faith.

Faith doesn’t require knowing every answer.

Faith simply says:

"Lord, I trust You enough to take the next step, even if I cannot yet see the rest of the path."

The enemy wants us to become frozen by fear.

God invites us to be strengthened by His presence.

Notice what God told Joshua.

He didn’t say:

"Be courageous because the journey will be easy."

He said:

"Be courageous because I will be with you."

That changes everything.

Our courage is not built upon favorable circumstances.

Our courage is built upon the faithful character of God.

Bible Story Reflection

When the Israelites stood before the Jordan River, it was overflowing its banks.

Crossing seemed impossible.

Yet God gave an unusual instruction.

The priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant were to step into the water first.

The river did not stop while they stood safely on the shore.

The water began to part only after they stepped forward in faith.

Imagine that moment.

Their feet touched rushing water before they saw the miracle.

Obedience came before understanding.

Faith came before visible evidence.

Sometimes God still works that way.

He asks us to take the first step, trusting that He will make a way where there seems to be none.

From Rachel’s Heart

As I look back over my journey, I realize that many of God’s greatest blessings began with one small step of obedience.

When I left Cambodia, I had no idea where God would lead my life.

When I began serving in ministry, I certainly didn’t feel fully prepared.

There were seasons of uncertainty.

Times when fear whispered that I wasn’t capable.

Moments when I wondered if I should wait until I felt stronger or more confident.

Yet the Lord gently reminded me that courage isn’t the absence of fear.

It is choosing to trust Him in the middle of it.

Looking back, I can clearly see that God never required me to understand every detail.

He simply asked me to keep walking with Him.

One prayer.

One decision.

One act of obedience.

One surrendered step at a time.

Dear friend, perhaps today God isn’t asking you to climb the whole mountain.

Perhaps He is simply asking you to take the next faithful step.

And He promises to walk beside you every step of the way.

Heart Reflection Questions

• What next step have you been afraid to take?

• What fear has been keeping you from moving forward?

• When has God honored your obedience even before you understood His plan?

• What promise from Scripture gives you courage today?

• What would your life look like if you trusted God’s presence more than your fears?

Living It Out

This week, ask the Lord one simple question each morning:

"Father, what is my next faithful step today?"

Don’t worry about next month.

Don’t worry about next year.

Simply obey what He places before you today.

It may be making a phone call.

Writing a note of encouragement.

Choosing forgiveness.

Beginning a new habit.

Serving someone quietly.

Taking time to rest.

Small steps of obedience often become the beginning of extraordinary stories.

At the end of each day, thank God for giving you the courage to take that one step.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You that I do not have to know the entire journey before I begin.

Forgive me for allowing fear to keep me standing still.

Help me trust Your presence more than my uncertainty.

When I feel weak, remind me that Your strength is enough.

When I feel afraid, remind me that You go before me.

Give me courage to obey You one step at a time.

Help me stop waiting until I feel completely ready.

Teach me to trust that You will provide everything I need as I faithfully follow You.

May my life become a testimony that courage grows wherever faith walks beside You.

In Jesus’ precious name,

Amen.

Truth to Carry Today

"God rarely reveals the entire journey. He simply asks you to trust Him with the next step—and promises to walk beside you the whole way."

Whisper Prayer

"Lord, give me courage for today’s step and faith to trust You with tomorrow’s path."

Walking Together

Dear friend,

If you’ve been standing still because fear has made the future seem overwhelming, remember this:

God is not asking you to carry the whole journey today.

He is simply inviting you to take the next faithful step with Him.

Every act of obedience, no matter how small it seems, becomes another opportunity to experience His faithfulness.

Don’t underestimate what God can do through one surrendered step.

Walking with you in His grace—

one step, one prayer, one surrendered heart at a time.
